Lallemand Bio-Ingredients (LBI) develops, manufactures and markets high-value yeast products including whole cell nutritional yeast, yeast extracts, and other yeast derivatives.

Headquartered in Montreal, Canada, and with production facilities in Canada, the United States, Estonia and Denmark, Lallemand Bio-Ingredients was initially formed in 1987. Born from the idea of leveraging knowledge accrued from our presence in industries such as baking, animal health, and others, LBI started to develop and produce a dedicated line of yeast-derived ingredients, initially focusing on yeast extracts for the food industry and for the industrial fermentation sector. The initial success obtained warranted an expansion of the product line, which grew to include mineral- and vitamin-rich yeasts and derivatives for human health applications.

Using strong research and development, proven results, and knowledge from experience, Lallemand Bio-Ingredients applies the right yeasts for the right applications to generate the greatest impact for our customers. Lallemand Bio-Ingredients is committed to partnering with customers to meet their specific requirements with key natural products and service solutions. Today, the business unit includes three application areas:

  • Savory: the portfolio includes nutritional and other inactive yeast with functional applications, and a range of yeast extracts and natural flavors containing peptides, free amino acids, nucleic acid and other components naturally present in yeast. These ingredients, just like seasonings, help to improve taste, and to enhance and balance flavors in food products. Within the Savory area, we offer a range of yeast-based palatants for companion animals that vary in taste profiles and functionality.
  • Health: includes a portfolio of value-added whole food fermented ingredients for use in dietary supplements and functional foods. Engevita® is a premium nutritional yeast which can contribute in many ways in taste, texture, and nutritional value to your recipes or applications. Yesto-Seal® are brewer’s yeast products specifically designed for tableting. Finally, Lalmin® mineral and vitamin yeasts are inactivated whole-cell yeast products containing elevated levels of specific minerals and/or vitamins.
  • Industrial fermentation: Fermentation Nutrients Ingredients (FNI range) have been developed to boost the growth and yield in industrial fermentation. FNI products are mainly primary yeast extracts, yeast peptones and autolysates containing a high level of protein in the form of readily and easily assimilated amino acids and peptides.
