Why Do I Need Vitamin D?
Scientists recognize that vitamin D does much more than build strong bones. Growing evidence suggests that vitamin D also helps boost our immune system, reduce inflammation, and maintain muscle strength.
Furthermore some studies suggest that vitamin D may help in the prevention of several
chronic diseases such as cancer (especially breast and colorectal cancer), diabetes,
multiple sclerosis, hypertension, arthritis, heart diseases and even infectious
diseases such as influenza.
Vitamin D and Disease Incidence Prevention
Vitamin D is associated withVitamin D is associated with disease prevention i.e. the chart from Grassrootshealth's website and prepared by Garland and Baggerly shows that breast cancer incidence is reduced by 30% when the vitamin D serum level is 34 ng/ml vs. the baseline of 25 ng/ml. There is an 83% reduction in incidence when the serum level is 50 ng/ml vs. the baseline of 25 ng/ml. Thus, the chart shows that higher vitamin D blood levels may help in the prevention of several diseases.

Articles About Vitamin D and Well-beingIn another study, the researchers Cannell et al. showed that the seasonality of influenza is tied to vitamin D and that vitamin D reduced the incidence of viral respiratory infections.
Vitamin D for cancer prevention
Higher vitamin D levels are associated with substantially lower incidence rates of colon, breast, ovarian, renal, pancreatic, aggressive prostate and other cancers, showed a review of Garland et al., published in the Annals of Epidemiology (2009: 19).
