Jean-François Daudelin received the first prize of the Rosell Probiotic Challenge for his study concerning the effects of Bactocell® and Levucell® SB administration on F4+ enterotoxigenic E. coli infection in piglets post-weaning . The young scientist had the opportunity to give a presentation of his study during the 5th International Symposium on Probiotics ‘’Cross Talk Now!”, organized by INITIA in Quebec City, November 6-7th. ]
A Second Prize was awarded to Stéphanie-Anne Girard for her work on the potential of probiotics on mechanisms involved in post-myocardial infarction depression . Today, probiotics are gaining momentum in animal and human health and nutrition, and this is linked to the strong and growing body of evidence of their efficacy and modes of action. Both winning entries of this year’s Rosell Probiotic Challenge were mechanistic studies in different fields of applications. Rosell Probiotic Challenge is organized by Institut Rosell-Lallemand, part of Lallemand’s Human Health and Nutrition Division.

Mathieu Castex, a final year PhD student at IFREMER (French Research Institute for Exploitation of the Sea) in Nouméa, New-Caledonia, was awarded Young Researcher of the Year during New-Caledonia « Doctoriales 2008 ».
The subject of his research project, conducted in partnership with Lallemand Animal Nutrition, is the evaluation of probiotic Pediococcus acidilactici MA 18/5 M (Bactocell®) in Litopenaeus Stylirostris shrimp farming. This award is the recognition of the quality of the research. It also marks the interest of the scientific community for natural approaches, such as probiotics, for shrimp farming, which plays a significant part in the local economy.

Lallemand Animal Nutrition has recently completed the acquisition of the New Zealand animal nutrition company Vitec Nutrition Ltd., based in Auckland. This latest acquisition follows on the heels of the integration to the group of animal nutrition supplier Vitam International in South Africa earlier this year, and Katec Agroteknika, in Brazil, a year ago. With this latest asset, the company is now well established within the world’s major animal production markets. This reflects its “global, yet local” strategy, whereby Lallemand is willing to remain close to its customers around the world to deliver tailored solutions and services. In addition to its various sales and distribution facilities around the world, Lallemand also operates 15 yeast production plants and three bacteria plants worldwide.

Lallemand Animal Nutrition has announced the appointment of Tim Pollock as managing director of its UK business, Biotal Limited, which is one of the UK’s leading suppliers of silage inoculants and probiotic yeast technologies.
Tim Pollock studied agriculture at the Royal Agriculture College and subsequently finance at London Business School. He has over 15 years director level experience within the agricultural, equestrian and rural sectors. His sector experience includes grain marketing; seed and fertilizer merchanting, agrochemical distribution; ruminant, monogastric and equestrian feed manufacturing and the distribution of farm inputs, silage additives, animal health products and feed supplements though a chain of country stores.

Lallemand Animal Nutrition held a ruminant technical meeting in October 2snd, in Clermont-Ferrand within the context of the Sommet de l’Elevage, one of the main international trade shows for livestock professionals.
The event, focused on the rumen ecosystem, gathered around 80 French delegates; farmers, technicians, feed and premixes manufacturers and journalists, around renowned scientists and veterinarians experts in ruminant nutrition. The aim of this event was to give an overview and update about the rumen microflora, the factors that affect its balance and function, such as the composition of the diet, the consequences of these changes at farm-level (in terms of health, performance, impact on the environment), as well as the strategies to control them, with a focus on ruminant specific live yeast Levucell®SC, which was selected over 15 years ago in this region.
